Lyubomir Bukov Shadows of the Past  (2014)

Millions of people take photographs, but only a few make photographs. All the other images on the Narrative Photography page could have been seen by anyone else at the event, though from a slightly different perspective. Bukov’s image, though, is a carefully constructed statement about the passage of time: the stark contrast between the bent postures and separate motions of the present with the supple bodies and carefree dancing of the past.

The shadow world seems to be taking place in the Fred Astaire era. Was the old man once a debonaire hoofer? Was the aged lady walking away from him once his partner, or even his beloved?

The horizontal plank line of the wall behind the two figures might represent the staff lines of a musical score.
