Oakland's First City Halls

I. The first city hall, a rented building on Broadway between Third and Fourth streets (1852-1867)

II. The second city hall: a rented brick building, also known as Shattuck Hall, on Eighth Street and Broadway (1867-1871)

III. Oakland's third city hall (1869-1877), Fourteenth and Washington Streets. This was the first publicly-owned city hall. This elegant mansard-style structure was destrpyed by fire in 1877.

IV.The fourth city hall (1879-1913), designed by the Newsom brothers, occupied the same space as its predecessor.
